Patriotic Road Racers

The Patriotic Grand Prix

11th November 1940

Applecross Western Australia

A wartime shortage of fuel and a desire to raise funds for charities devoted to the care of servicemen  led to the staging of Perth's first and only street circuit race for cars. This 28 page commemorative booklet brings to life the amazing stories behind this unique event.

Published in 2006 for the re-enactment of the event staged to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Vintage Sports Car Club of Western Australia, there is the story of the race itself with all the thrills and spills of street racing in the 1940s, plus cameos of the skilled drivers who braved the hazards of the round the houses circuit and their finely tuned racing machines.

Many never before published photographs sourced from private collections are included. A great read for anyone interested in post war motoring and social history.

Cost: AUD $25
